It’s easy to see why so many of us opt for city living. It’s exhilarating, being in the thick of things. Not to mention that inner-city life provides the best job opportunities by far. It’ll certainly save you a fortune on commuting costs.
But, let’s be honest; the small apartment spaces on offer in our favourite cities are hardly anything to write home about. And, as demand in areas like London rises even further, things get tougher. It’s certainly impossible to make city life work without a compromise or two along the way. Of course, most of us know that. But, we often fall into the trap of thinking that space is the only thing we compromise. That couldn’t be further from the truth. To prove the point, we’re going to look at some of the other things you’re missing out on by sticking close to your favourite city.
Your own front door
This may seem like a simple point. But, when it’s a luxury you don’t have access to, it’s surprising how much you miss it. The simple process of opening your own front door when guests ring is more important than many of us realise. You could, of course, argue that all apartments also have their own front doors. And, it’s true to some extent. But, it’s not the same thing. First, guests have to ring a buzzer, climb up some stairs, and sometimes even catch a stinky elevator. It’s not the welcome you may have always imagined. By the time they get to your ‘front door’, they’re likely exhausted already. But, even a few miles out of the city, houses have their own front doors! And no, we’re not talking about those posh Mayfair numbers you walk past on the way to work. We mean just standard, two up, two down houses. With doors!
As it stands, you likely park your car on any free curb you can find. Hit at the wrong time of day, and it isn’t unusual to have a fair walk from where you park the car before you reach home. Well, outside the city, they have these glorious things called garages. The sheer amount of space you’d have to park your car would astound you. Forget long walks from your parking space; you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your vehicle to open garage doors. Your garage door openers could do it for you! Then, you could stroll on in through that front door we just spoke about.
A green garden
In truth, any city garden is a rarity. But, some of us are lucky enough to have roof terraces or small outside spaces. But, you can be sure that both these are concrete-style setups either way. That’s not so out of the city. There, you can say hello to gardens which actually have grass in them. That’s right; greenery isn’t only for the likes of Richmond Park. Us mere mortals can gain access to the stuff, too.
