We’ve all been guilty of buying beauty products that just end up collecting dust at one time or another. You know, you buy it because it looks pretty, or maybe you needed to use it just that one time before a night out.

But for me, I can put my hands up and say I’ve done this way too many times. So much so, that I’ve decided to be proactive and switch my beauty-buying habits around.

You’ve probably bought a nice new liquid lipstick that you thought you’d actually end up wearing a lot… despite not being a lipstick-kind-of-person.

But that’s ok..and here’s why: the items you bought actually serve a multi purpose! So read on how to make the most of your regretful purchase that is either at the bottom of your makeup bag or tucked away in a draw you haven’t opened in a while.

Expiry Date

First things first, be sure to check the expiry date of the product. Under each item (or at the back of it) it a mini drawing of a tub with a time period on it. So for example, a face cream I have says 6M…meaning it’s good to use within 6 months of opening it.

Eyebrow Gel

The first “forgotten” beauty item that many seem to overlook is eyebrow gel. Given the name, it’s pretty obvious what its main purpose is. Although many people don’t use it, eyebrow gel is a godsend for making sure your eyebrow hairs stay in place all day.

Eyebrow gel serves a more important purpose. It is essential for me to use it to keep my fly-away hairs stop from sticking out if I have a slick pony tail or braid. I totally recommend trying to comb through your baby hairs with an eyebrow gel stick… and tell me how you get on! My go-to is Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Eyebrow Gel.

Face scrub

It amazes me when people take a shower and don’t use any face scrub, because that for me has been a key role in my skincare regime. Be careful not to use the scrub too often, as it can actually damage your skin. I’d say 2-3 times a week is fine.

This item is actually a “forgotten” one, as a lot of people I know have never gotten round to trying face scrub. My top pick for this is definitely UpCircle’s Floral Blend Face Scrub…and it’s made with repurposed coffee grounds!

Face Cleansing Balm

When it comes to skincare, there are a lot of items that people decide not to buy, and that’s perfectly normal because many people don’t fully know the product’s purpose. For me, that item was definitely a face cleansing balm. At first, I was like what? Why would I need that? But once I got round to trying it, I honestly can’t picture what it was like without it (so dramatic, I know).

Botanicals have produced a life-saving (again with the drama) product from their Gentle skin range. Their Cleanse Melt is a daily cleansing balm dissolves make-up and hydrates your skin in the best way. Definitely give it a try…and thank me later!
