British designer Alice Temperley allowed us to momentarily forget about our cold fingers and chapped lips as she transformed the room into a mini Havana at her SS16 runway show for LFW last month.
True to form, Temperley managed to combine delicate fabrics and intricate details with bright colours and square cuts, creating a powerful feminine look. She recently revealed that the range was inspired by Cuba’s “forbidden yet tempting fantasy of island life… and mysterious attitude of its capital city Havana”.
The line consists of a mixture of delicate evening dresses and casual two pieces which are beautifully embellished yet understated; perfect for strolling down the back-streets of Havana on a summer evening.
Sequins and lace are prominent features of the SS16 collection and ensure that those wearing them exude class. This might have something to do with Temperley’s British upbringing (she was born and raised in Somerset) and with both Kate Middleton and sister Pippa renowned fans of the line, her range certainly has a royal feel to it.
Tipped as being “the designer making the biggest waves in British fashion” by US Vogue in the early noughties, Temperley has gone from strength to strength and has recently been in the process of expanding to include a homeware range. On top of this, she has just become the ambassador for “Women for Women International”, a charity which helps to support female survivors of war. We know who our woman crush is this winter.
Temperley claims that her SS16 collection intends to encompass “day to evening in a vivacious and animated manner whilst being confident, joyful, and ultra feminine”. And here at PlusMinus we couldn’t agree more. Now, we’re off to sip a pina colada and pretend that we’re lying on a beach in the Caribbean…
