This week we are in conversation with Kirk and Kirk, and we are talking glasses. With on average 61% of us Brits wearing glasses, we are sure we can learn a thing or two.
An eyewear company synonymous for their experimental use of colour, and sympathetic and creative frame shapes within the eyewear industry. With fans such as Great British Bake Off’s Prue Leith Kirk and Kirk are a go to for bright and beautiful frames.
Kirk and Kirk are based in London, and have just launched a brand new collection. Entiled Centena, the latest Kirk & Kirk collection uses a special grade of Italian acrylic as an alternative to the usual acetate which gives the frames a lightweight quality offering the wearer comfort, style, luminosity, and function.
Kirk and Kirk are the only brand to work Acrylic making these glasses unique and highly covetable. After the success of our previous style secrets with Portia Shaw, we grabbed 15 minutes with Jason and Karen from high end optical company Kirk and Kirk.
Glasses have never been more stylish, where do you get your inspiration?
Because we are the only people working with acrylic rather than acetate we try and exploit the unique qualities of this incredible material. Much inspiration is taken from glassware designers and sculptors.
We all have different tastes, how does this translate into your eyewear collection?
We offer a wide variety of shapes and colours but we do not design for everyone as this always leads to compromise on both quality and design.
What is your signature frame?
Hana is probably our signature frame a vintage-style cats eye it is becoming an iconic frame
Whose glasses wardrobe would you love to raid?Well it’s not a wardrobe, but I wouldn’t mind the keys to the Optical museum in London, they have an amazing collection.
What is the best way to care for your glasses?
You should keep them in a case whenever you can. Never clean them with anything other than a lens cloth and try not to sit on them
We love trends, how do we pick a frame that will work with all our looks?
If you can afford it – Why would you just buy one frame? Would you buy 1 pair of shoes to go with all your looks? Your glasses are probably THE most important accessory.
Best style tip for glasses wearers?
Try them all on before purchase! People often end up with frames they did not initially consider ’THEM’ Go for a frame that makes you FEEL great when you wear them, that makes you feel they are part of you and your personality.
