It is not often we find ourselves bragging that we have shared a dance-floor with an A-list celebrity, let alone the dance-floor of a cheap Dalston tiki bar with our favourite London ‘It Girl’ Alexa Chung!

We have been loyal customers of Dalston’s ‘Ridley Road Market Bar’ ever since we discovered their ‘Slice Girls’ offer of two pizzas and a carafe of wine for only £15. Add in the most delicious £5 ginger mojitos imaginable and the permanent free entry despite the banging DJs they host every night and you can see why it is practically our second home…

London’s version of Club Tropicana might have won us over, but the bar doesn’t exactly scream ‘A list hang out’. In fact, as you walk past the deserted market stalls of ‘Ridley Road’ at night you might not notice the cute-yet-shabby tiki bar tucked away, welcoming you with fairy lights and – if you’re there early enough – the mouth watering smell of their freshly-made stone-baked pizzas…

The bar does not have guest list, nor does it hold reservations, instead priding itself on its cheap prices and lax entrance policy – you are not going to be turned away due to having the ‘wrong shoes’ here.

So you can imagine our surprise when, on a quiet Thursday night, A-lister Alexa Chung rocked up, looking as effortlessly cool as ever in a short loose dress with thick tights and boots (cue the sound of multiple pizza crust chokes around us).

Although of course everyone spotted her, we did not see anyone actually approach Alexa. And luckily the mojitos were yet to go to our heads at this stage so we still had some level of restraint…

Whilst we might not have witnessed her dance we did have the chance to admire the ‘Vogue’ editor and model from across the room as she stood by the DJ booth, sipping a drink and, by the looks of things, enjoying the 90s pop tunes being thrown out as much as the next person.

Thankfully she left before we busted out our overly enthusiastic dancing – nothing like a bit of Destiny’s Child to bring out your most cringe-worthy moves…

If, like us, your ‘dry January’ is looking more like an ‘April shower’ then head down to ‘Ridley Road Market Bar’ for a drink and a pizza, open Tuesday- Sunday (hours vary).
