Malan Breton returned to London this season with one of his best ever shows. The show was sponsored by a heavy dose of show business nostalgia; with a personal collection deep at the heart of the show. As we waited for the lights to come up we sat breathing in Breton’s new scent, which is a powerful and sexy scent.

This collection was a show-stopping affair with a multitude looks. As always Breton brought his classic tailoring. With a metallic yellow brocade suit with matching marabou sleeves opening the show, we knew that Breton has upped the anti. There was a feeling of the seventies to the tailoring in the collection, broadening the trend towards moving fashion forwards by referencing the past and making it modern once more.

Known for bold use of print and colour Breton didn’t disappoint, seemly using every colour and texture known. This sounds overwhelming, but trust us, it was a refined melange of elegance that was beautiful to behold.

The Breton client is impeccable stylish and effervescent and this was reflected in each and every piece. This collection had everything, from chic and supple buttery leather seen on corsets and gowns rubbing shoulders with flashes of neon, glitter and leopard print. We love the elongated silhouettes, the nipped waists and the full skirts.

We spoke to Breton backstage after the collection, we asked about the inspiration behind the show; ‘this collection was inspired by the Ziegfeld Follies’ -a series of elaborate theatrical review productions on Broadway in the early 20th century- ‘and from the stories, my grandmother told me about this time’. Breton was visibly moved by the reception to his collection, he said due personal elements he had infused into the collection.

As one onlooker said, there are very shows where you loved every piece, but this was one of those rare shows. This collection is just the first act in the next level of ascension for his take on couture fashion, and we cannot wait for next season.

With thanks to the gorgeous Lori Cutler of POP PR.
