Last Tuesday, we watched London’s social elite and front row regulars pack out The Scotch of St James.

Nestled in the heart of Mayfair, The Scotch is everything you’d expect a Mayfair nightclub to be: glitzy, giddy and shrouded in glamour. But this isn’t your typical Mayfair nightclub. Nor is it just another swanky bar enjoyed by London’s most glamorous residents.

The Scotch has something that no other bar can beat – because it was the first establishment visited by Jimi Hendrix when he arrived in the U.K in 1966. Impressed? We were.

Since it opened in 1965, The Scotch has regularly served unforgettable nights (that were most likely forgotten) to high profile clientele. Among them, you’ll find an impressive list of rock legends such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and David Bowie, to name just a few.

Our experience of The Scotch was the perfect blend of seduction and sophistication. We arrived to the sound of pianist Ciara Haidar and the sweet scents of Brand Aroma, then sipped on champagne while watching burlesque performances by Polly Rae, and ended the night dancing to beats spun by DJ Cooks. It was a journey from high class to glamour to London’s heady party scene and back again – and we want to go again.

Where we went: The Scotch is tucked away in Masons Yard, just off Piccadilly.

What we ate: Chicken and beef tacos from Taco Truck, an old fire truck that now serves tacos, followed by popcorn chicken and mini fish and chips canapés from Kai Catering.

What we drank: Moscow Mules and (lots of) champagne.

Why go: Despite the Scotch’s impressive history and high profile clientele, the club has a charmingly discreet atmosphere and serves perfectly blended cocktails. Oh, and you might spot Kate Moss.
