The eye popping presentation of Billie Jacobina’s AW17 collection at Freemasons Hall, as part of London Fashion Week, was a fun packed ride.
A set piled high with pink balloons suggested that we were in for a whole lot of pretty as the models appeared, and goodness, we were not disappointed. It was a pastel and neon frenzy, with pink as the dominant palette – which meant an explosive hybrid of girlyness and cartoon kitsch had us mesmerized.
Sporty streetwear met with frothy net ra-ra skirts, pink pom-poms and Hello Kitty details, which all equalled a joyous overdose of cute. The models rode 90’s skateboards, had oversized acid smiley earrings, neon fake fur detail, rollers in their hair and furry pink mules akin to the wardrobe of a Barbie doll.
We could not get enough of the pop and sparkle of sequins, My Little Pony necklaces and her trademark prints; wow, THE PRINTS! With a blend of splattered tie-dye, graffiti doodles and candy coloured Balinese inspired patterns, this girl excels in bringing something really fresh to the world of fashion print.
Even as a brand new designer on the block, Billie Jacobina’s work jumps out as recognisable and undoubtedly hers in just a glance. This girl is good.
As a graduate of UCA Rochester, Billie showed at Graduate Fashion Week 2016, and went on to be awarded The British Council GFW award, which gave her the opportunity to collaborate with a brand in Jakarta and show at Jakarta Fashion Week. She sure is on a winning streak, as she also won the Fashion Scout’s One To Watch Award for SS17 which is a certain sign that she’s only just at the start of a sparkling future.
Her slogan for this collection was 100% SASSY, and that it was – superbly so. We were tickled pink with this collection, and you will be too.
