They say the best things in life are free. They also say if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

We’re not sure where we’re going to place this one, but we’re intrigued nonetheless.

Award-winning dating app CLiKD has just launched a brand new bi-monthly “ultra” speed dating event in London and it’s certainly not one for the faint-hearted.

It might, however, be one for you if you:

  1. are struggling to find love
  2. are struggling to pay your rent on time
  3. spend all your time thinking about your next weekend escape

Launched earlier this month, Dates Escapes is the ultimate blind date bringing 32 singles together. Prospective couples are given just three minutes and three questions before deciding if they’d like to go on holiday together. The CLiKD app connects potential matches over photo-based quizzes, and the Date Escapes event is now taking this out to an IRL setting, replicating this unique and innovative way of matching potential love interests. It might seem slightly strange, but it’s a refreshing step away from swipe-based apps that rely entirely on pictures.

Questions range from the fairly normal to “On holiday, do you plan or go with the flow?” to the slightly more niche “Gryffindor or Slytherin?”.

If both sides agree, the newly matched couple will be sent off on holiday together. Talk about a whirlwind romance.

But it doesn’t stop there…

If the idea wasn’t already crazy enough, the matched couples won’t know where they’re jetting off to until 24 hours before they leave. The European holidays are provided by ATO-Tours, who are partnering with CLiKD for the event. ATO-Tours sell holidays where customers don’t find out the destination until the very last minute, putting the excitement back into travel in the same way CLiKD is putting it back into dating – a pretty perfect match to set the tone for the event.

The first Date Escapes event took place in Shoreditch on 7th April 2018, and four couples were matched and sent on holiday together.

It’s a pretty bold idea and takes blind dating to a whole new level, but you could just fall in love. CLiKD CEO Michael Blakely says:

“We pride ourselves on our creativity and fun and we wanted to do something which would challenge the public to see how adventurous people really are! But we have really been blown away by the response. It was a great night, and we saw that our personality test actually worked really well when compared with discussions in real life. Now I can’t wait to see what happens next!”

And we can’t wait either!

If you’re brave enough to jet off to an unknown destination with an almost unknown potential partner (or desperate enough for a free holiday – we won’t judge), you can sign up on the CLiKD app or here on the CLiKD website. If you do, be sure to let us know!

And if you’ve not yet plucked up the courage or are already coupled up, you can still get in on the fun by watching the event as a viewer.
