Whether you’ve jumped on the crystal bandwagon yet or not, the use of crystals are as popular as ever. Originally known as the Greek word Krystallos, meaning frozen light, crystals have been used for centuries to aid healing, protection and for decoration.

These mystical little things are actually minerals formed underground from three-dimensional repeating patterns of atoms. Crystals form in a range of different shapes, due to the conditions of where they grow – cool hey? This repeating chemical structure of crystals is said to invest them with a kind of memory. This means that crystals have the power to hold energies and can ultimately change energies too. With this memory, a crystal can remember negative as well as positive energies and so will sometimes need to be cleansed.

Are you still with me? Ok….

In Feng Shui, crystals are widely used to bring positive energy and vibrations to your home or office. Feng Shui is applied in living environments to achieve one thing, good flowing energy throughout the entire space and home.

With a small amount of knowledge, focus and a positive intent, you can bring about some great positivity to your home through using crystals. Each crystal though holds different healing attributes, so the trick is to know which one to correctly choose, to aid you in that area of healing. There are however thousands of different types of crystals, but to get you started, here are a few basic ways of using crystals to create good energy in your home.

Whether you have brought a crystal yourself or been given it as a gift, you must cleanse the crystal to clear the stagnant energy. You basically are giving your new crystal a reset and allowing it to be receptive to you as it’s new owner. Cleansing crystals is really easy, just submerge it in pure water or leave it out in the moonlight for a night. Once cleansed, your crystal is ready to go.

To add some protection to your home there are a few particular crystals that will do the trick. Black Tourmaline, Obsidian and Hematite, all have protective qualities and will be a good addition to your home. Focusing on the front door area, place several tumbled Hematite crystals or Black Tourmaline stones either outside or inside the door. A great tip is to have some large pot plants on either side of the main door, then place the stones on top of the soil or at the base of your plant pot.

Ignite love and happiness

The crystal Rose Quartz helps promote a happy energy in a love relationship, so if your relationship needs a little boost, then this is your go to crystal. Place two Rose Quartz crystals in the southwest area of your home, or to cure love, place a full bowl of Rose Quartz crystals in your bedroom.

Attract wealth

Fancy attracting some money? Of course you do. The crystal Citrine is known in classical feng shui techniques to attract wealth and it does not need to be cleansed, as it does not absorb negativity. This crystal is known as the ‘Merchant’s Stone,’ so if you own your own business, you definitely want to get your hands on one of these crystals. The great thing is wherever a Citrine is placed, the crystal will attract money, so place your Citrine in the south east (furthest left) corner of your home. You can also place a Citrine stone in a safe and carry a piece in your wallet or purse. Citrine however is extremely rare with many fake versions being sold on the market, so make sure you shop for a raw and un-heated Citrine crystal.

Creating a calming and grounding environment

If you have a hectic household, with family members who tend to get overexcited and hyper, then there are a selection of crystals which can promote a calming vibe to the environment. Add several pieces of Hematite, which will help ground and center your energy. These also work great for children with behavioural issues, place these crystals either in your child’s room, or in the west (children & creativity) Feng Shui area of your home. This particular crystal can also be used for protection.
