It is not very often that brands such as Chanel bring us all new fragrances. Well, Gabrielle, Chanel’s first original scent since 2002’s Chance, is here and smells like a dream. This is a once in 15-year opportunity to grab a brand new perfume. Let’s discuss.

Chanel created this fragrance by turning to their in-house Fragrance Creation and Development Laboratory. Olivier Polge drew inspiration from the real Gabrielle, who the woman -the founder of the house Coco Chanel- was before she helmed the legendary fashion house. Stating that she was ‘a rebel at heart, passionate and free’. Well if that doesn’t get your pulse racing then the smell will.

Harnessing the intensity of jasmine and ylang-ylang with white musk notes, Chanel increases the delicate floral notes with the creaminess of tuberose with touches of sandalwood and benzoin. Freshness comes in the form of orange blossom with mandarin peel, grapefruit zest and a hint of blackcurrant. We have had a good lungful of the scent – we love the rich citrus blended with the warm floral, a truly unique scent. Yes, we are obsessed.

As with most modern scents, the packaging plays a vital role in the way the perfume makes us feel. The bottle is also striking, a sharp and sleek square design. It has a luxurious feel by the pure elegance of its simplicity. After all, Gabrielle Chanel said that ‘Luxury is what you don’t see’.

Add to that the fact that one of our Girl Crushes Kristen Stewart fronts the fresh campaign and it’s a winner for us. In a step away from perfume ad campaigns this campaign feels new and different which makes so much sense when the scent marks a new chapter for the house. Stewart looks luminous as she launches herself into a wall if he bottles, and quite honestly Kristen we feel the same.

Feel like you want to fully immerse yourself in this new scent, well you can. With the Espace Gabrielle pop-up on Old Bond Street in Mayfair. The new space, which will be open to the public from September 8 to 24, celebrates the launch of Gabrielle. More information available here.

This could quite possibly be the fragrance of the decade…
