Plants, oh glorious plants! Did you know that including plants in with your interior scheme has many health and healing benefits? Not only do plants look great and are totally on trend, they also can enhance your quality of life by interacting with your body and mind in positive ways. But how is this done? Check out below for the marvellous ways plants can benefit you in your home….

1 – Plants purify the air

Plants can be miracle workers when it comes to the effect they have on the air, as they can actually remove toxins from it. Our homes, without even realising, include many hidden nasty substances, which hide in man-made fibers, home furnishings and even grocery bags. These substances over time can begin to affect our health. Studies have discovered that plants purify these substances by pulling contaminates into soil, where then the microorganisms convert them into food for the plant – who knew hey!

2 – Plants help you to breathe easily

As humans when we breathe, our bodies take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. As we know from science class, during photosynthesis plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. This actually increases the oxygen levels in that space, which is a great benefit to humans, meaning you can breathe easy! Though at night, when the sun goes down and photosynthesis ends, plants respire like humans, absorbing oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. Though do not fear, as plants such as orchids, succulents and epiphytic bromeliads do the opposite and take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. So if you suffer from breathing problems or need a little boost, place these plants in bedrooms to refresh the air during the night.

3 – Plants raise morale and improve health

There is no stopping these leafy friends, as studies have also proven that by adding plants to a space, they can actually speed up the recovery from illnesses and can ease fatigue, stress and anxiety. Now that’s a big incentive to include plants in your home.

4 – Plants can help reduce noise

We all want to create peaceful and relaxing homes that give us space to regenerate and rest, so creating a quiet environment is really important. Adding plants to an area can help muffle noise, creating a more peaceful atmosphere. This technique is especially useful if you live in an apartment or in a townhouse in a busy area. A good tip to follow if using plants for this purpose is to have about one plant for every 100 square feet of space.

5 – Dreamy décor

The biggest benefit from having plants around your home is the visual effect that they can create. Plants come in all shapes and sizes, textures and tones, so with a little thought you can style dreamy décor using a varied type of plants. Flowers of course will add colour to the space, but by just choosing simple green plants, it will make your scheme look more polished and finished. When choosing where to place your plants, be mindful of whether they will need a lot of natural light. Plus make sure you have easy access to your plants, so you can water them regularly. Use of plants in a home can also come in handy to hide blemishes on your walls or floors.
