Designers Neslişah Yılmaz and Nur Çağlayan wowed the front row and beyond with their autumn/winter 2016 collection at London Fashion Week this February.

The two talented designers – the faces behind Turkish fashion label Barrus – brought together their different personalities to create unique looks built on contrasts such as simplicity and complexity. Using the finest tailoring and delicate fabrics such as silk, lace and cashmere, the duo created a collection for every woman who wants to feel confident, sexy and independent.

Using a palette of midtown burgundy, oxblood and black, the one of a kind evening gowns are whimsical in a powerful kind of way. Traditional Turkish Marbling, a method of aqueous surface design which can produce patterns similar to smooth marble or other stones, further adds to the earth-y, elemental undertone of the collection.

Head Designer, Neslişah Yılmaz, pinpointed her hometown of Bursa as an “ancient centre for many civilisations as well as handicrafts”, where “marbling is one of many jewels that has contributed… to the journey of multicultural inspiration”.

Barrus autumn/winter 2016 collection at London Fashion Week

The Barrus team delved into Turkey’s historic archives for autumn/winter 2016, taking much inspiration from Anatolian and Mesopotamian heritage from thousands of years ago. They have mixed this heritage with the modern day marbling techniques to create a truly unique collection for confident and care-free women around the world.

If you’ve been wondering, the name ‘Barrus’ means ‘elephant’ in Latin. Perhaps not an obvious connection at first, but the power, loyalty and good luck that it symbolises are certainly apparent in the brand’s designs.
This could just be our new favourite label.

The collection will retail for £400-£1000 and will be available at Istanbul’s Gizia Gate and selected London stockists. Click through the gallery above to see the full collection.
