We all lead such busy lives, and spending time with loved ones can often take a backseat. However if you’ve vowed to socialise more and dedicate time to the ones who matter this year then why not start entertaining more at home? Create a home that guests love and you get to show off your hostess skills while enjoying good company and keeping bonds close. Here are some of the rooms you could upgrade!
The Kitchen and Dining Room
The kitchen is such an important room in the home. A nice, practical kitchen will benefit your family and be useful for day to day life, as well as being fantastic for entertaining in. If you’re in need of a complete renovation, consider going open plan and having an island installed. This casual seating is great for sitting with a coffee or for kids to do their homework at, but is awesome for guests to sit and when you have people over too. The Guest Room
If you have a spare bedroom in your home, don’t just fill it with junk or use it as storage! Transforming it into a gorgeous guest bedroom means it’s easy for friends and family to come to stay with you, especially great if you live far away from the ones you love. Go with a ‘hotel chic’ kind of feel- neutral colours will appeal to everyone but add a touch of luxury too for the wow factor. A gorgeous headboard, a high quality comfortable mattress, soft bed sheets and furniture with good storage so they don’t have to live out of their suitcase. Consider the window treatments, blackout blinds with thick curtains over the top will block out the light giving them the best night’s sleep. A bedside table with a lamp and a socket that they can plug their phone into are crucial. You could even provide some reading material, a couple of bestselling books or some magazines to flick through are a nice touch.
With spring and summer on the way, entertaining is likely to involve time spent in the garden. Barbeques, pizza parties with the outdoor pizza oven, alfresco dinners and afternoon tea- they’re all fantastic ways to get everyone together. Give the garden a tidy up- mow grass, prune shrubs and remove weeds. Fill beds, pots and borders with colourful flowers, and jet wash the patio. Invest in a good outdoor table making sure there are enough seats to host everyone you usually have over. Shade and shelter such as a gazebo or large table umbrella will keep the sun out of your eyes and provide you with a pleasant space to relax with your guests outdoors.
