Forget new year, new you – as we enter 2019, we’re more concerned with giving our home a makeover. Whether you live in a shared house or a flat you own, our homes are our sanctuaries and where we spend our most valuable time.

So why settle for anything less than a look you love? If your living room is feeling a little stale or your bedroom could do with a bit of a touch up, here are some ideas to inspire your own home makeover in the new year. As you’ll see, there’s no need to go overboard or schedule in a full house renovation – sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest impact.

Here are five ways to quickly add some new life into old walls in 2019.

1 – Add a touch of living coral

The 2019 Pantone colour of the year is living coral. This fun, natural shade may look fairly bright, but it’s the perfect way to liven up your home in the new year. Whether you go for a full feature wall or simply add a few quirky accents here and there, living coral will add a pop of life to any room.

2 – Play with light

One of the easiest – but most overlooked – ways of breathing new life into an old room is by upgrading the lighting. Whether you choose to install new lamp shades or make the most of the natural light available, altering the light will instantly update your space.

Changing up a room’s lighting can completely transform an area and make it feel like you’ve completely renovated. For a complete upgrade, why not look at something completely different such as lantern roofs?

3 – Grow an indoor garden

Indoor gardens were big news in 2018 and they’re only set to grow bigger in 2019. The best thing about indoor gardens is that they can fit into any space. Whether you have a detached mansion or a tiny London studio apartment, there’s always room for an indoor garden.

If you’re tight on space, it’s not hard to get creative with greenery. Small touches like a hanging basket here or a window sill plant pot there can make a huge difference. If in doubt, choose evergreen plants or flowers that won’t require a lot of effort to maintain.

4 – Rearrange the furniture

If it’s been a while since you refurnished your room, why not try a new layout for the new year? Rearranging the furniture is a quick and easy way to give your home an entirely new look without spending a single penny. And that’s something we can certainly get on board with after treating our loved ones to some fab Christmas pressies!

5 – Switch up the details

You don’t need to go big to freshen up your home – sometimes the small, subtle changes are the ones that will give you the greatest satisfaction. Why not switch some of the smaller details, such as cushions, curtains or even the photo frames? You might just be amazed at how quickly such minor changes can switch up any room.
